Care 4 Kids helps low to moderate income families in Connecticut pay for child care costs. This program is sponsored by the State of Connecticut's Department of Social Services (also called DSS). Do you have concerns about your child's ability to see, talk, hear, move, eat, play? The CT Birth to Three Program provides developmental evaluations and early intervention services for infants and toddlers (from 0-36 months of age) who have significant delays in development such as talking or walking. We carry out that mission through a range of activities that inform, educate and support the adults who influence very young children’s lives. It also incorporates information about health insurance, communicating with a child's physician, and resources for selecting a doctor for your child, as well as other children's health-related topics. Plymouth Public Health/Human Services Department The Plymouth Public Health/Human Services Department aids in the development of a sound community health program by communicating and cooperating with other community health, social, and welfare agencies. They work to promote and assist individuals and families who have insufficient income and/or assets to meet their essential needs. Residents experiencing hardship because of temporary unemployment or illness are encouraged to seek assistance by calling the phone number above. Plymouth Public Health/Human Services Department also overs a wide variety of services to residents of all ages, including children's immunizations, blood pressure screenings, podiatry clinics for seniors, B12 injections, Flu shots and more. Plymouth Community Food Pantry The mission of the Plymouth Community Food Pantry is to strive to be an outreach agency providing food subsidies and referral services for families and individuals in partnership with other community organizations. The pantry is working to foster a caring atmosphere for the welfare of our community and we are dedicated to maintaining continuous growth in services to assist our clients to improve their quality of life.
The mission of the Plymouth Local Prevention Council works to increase public awareness focusing on the prevention of youth alcohol, tobacco, and other drug abuse, and through this public awareness, stimulate the development and implementaion of local substance abuse prevention activities targeting youth.
The HUSKY Plan offers a full health insurance package for children and teenagers up to age 19, regardless of family income. HUSKY pays for doctor visits, prescriptions, vision and dental care, and much more. For most families, HUSKY is low-cost or free. HUSKY is now serving over 241,000 children and teens in Connecticut's working families--keeping kids healthy and helping the family budget. HUSKY also provides health coverage for parents, relative caregivers and pregnant women, depending on income. Working together with families and communities to improve child safety, ensure that more children have permanent families, and advance the overall well-being of children is the central focus of the Department of Children and Families (DCF). DCF protects children who are being abused or neglected, strengthens families through support and advocacy, and builds on existing family and community strengths to help children who are facing emotional and behavioral challenges, including those committed to the Department by the juvenile justice system. Lions Low Vision Center Bristol Hospital, in partnership with the Bristol Lions Club, launched the Eye Care Project of Greater Bristol to promote healthy eye care and successful management of vision impairment by providing education about early detection of signs and symptoms of sight-related diseases, strategies for their prevention, information about existing eye care resources, greater access to timely medical or surgical interventions. The Learning Center (PreK) Terry Nursery School (PreK) Play & Learn Child Development Center (PreK) Maloney Interdistrict Magnet School (PreK - Grade 5) Maloney Magnet School is an Interdistrict Magnet School established to serve students from Waterbury and from the three participating districts of Plymouth/Terryville, Thomaston and Wolcott. Students from additional surrounding districts have the opportunity to apply for open seats. Children in pre-kindergarten through grade five enjoy classes in a state-of-the-art facility, conveniently located right next to Interstate 84. Programs and amenities offered at the school include all-day Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten, Japanese Language & Culture, Laptop At Home Program for students in grades three, four and five, an excellent science curriculum which makes use of a science lab and greenhouse on the premises, and a multi-cultural Social Studies curriculum. The school also offers a Before-and-After School Program on a limited basis. Technology is infused throughout the curriculums with a state of the art computer lab and classrooms. Rotella Interdistrict Magnet School (PreK - Grade 5) The Rotella Magnet School motto "It STARts with the ARTS" is the basis of our academic program. Students learn academic concepts through project-based activities that integrate the fine arts. Through this approach to learning, students and staff collaborate with artists and teachers from a wide variety of community arts and cultural organizations. Admission for all students is based on a lottery system. There is no tuition. Students residing in Waterbury and the participating districts of Wolcott, Thomaston, and Plymouth/Terryville are eligible to apply. Students from other towns may also apply, although bus transportation is not provided and there must be vacant seats in specific grade levels leftover from the participating districts.
